Throughout the university, there are plenty of journalism majors with various career ideas. Some want to go into reporting, others into public relations. However, some students want to use their degree to help the environment.

Laura Kubitz is a senior here at the University of Florida, majoring in journalism, while minoring in environmental studies. After getting her bachelor’s degree, she plans on getting her masters’ in Agricultural Communication, which will be used toward her goal of being an environmental correspondent. The intricacies of the environment, ranging from tracking hurricanes to the restoration of the Florida aquifers, interested the Niceville resident into pursuing a career in the field.

When asked about adversities in life that she has persevered from, Laura cited the difficulties in knowing what she wanted to do with her life when she came to the university. As many students coming into college experience, there wasn’t a set career she wanted to follow, however was able to decide the environment would be a fascinating career to become involved with.

While the issue of the renewable resources and alternate sources of energy has become a trendy topic, for Laura Kubitz, it is a passion that will become a career someday.
